Alexa Valentine began her ballet training at the age of 8 outside of Philadelphia in West Chester. As a young teenager she was awarded full merit scholarships to study ballet at the School of American Ballet, the George Balanchine founded feeder school for the New York City Ballet, and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theater. After spending time freelance performing and teaching ballet while obtaining her undergraduate degree, she attended New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, and completed a Master of Fine Arts. She was awarded a Dean’s Fellowship and Teaching Assistantship in Dance History. Her studies focused on dance pedagogy, dance and emerging technology, and choreographic composition.

Over the years, she has taught ballet and contemporary dance to hundreds of students, choreographed, and produced artistic work with various artists across disciplines. Most notably working with colleagues J.H. Moon, NYU Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) professor and creative coder, and internationally presented choreographer and professor Kerry Kim. Together they produced a fully interactive dance and new media installation in New York, entitled ex nihilo. Alexa’s choreography has been presented throughout New York City and the Philadelphia area. She continues to teach in the Greater Philadelphia area, and work at the intersection of arts, culture, and technology.
